  • It's been a while...

Second Semester is upon us.. and so is the new year as well as a new semester of college.

It's awesome to see how the new year generally brings out the best in all of us. Perhaps its the prospect of new beginnings, second chances, and new perspectives. In every aspect of my life, I see the new year as a time to make the adjustments that you need to make in order to make yourself a better person. Academically, this is a time to have your slates wiped clean, but with that clean slate comes the responsibility to manage your time and keep up in your classes. The trend I see is that we all start off well, then around week 5 or so, we begin to get extremely tired of school and start to slack off. LETS NOT DO THAT this year! Lets let 2008 be a year in which we overcome our mental exhaustion and excel in school by not procrastinating and slacking off :D

Another awesome aspect of the new year is that being a year older, our perspective and outlook on life grows that much more. I would say that in this past year I've learned a lot about what I want to do in life and the direction which I'm aiming towards. Career wise I feel that I am set towards working in the international relations arena and the Department of State seems to be calling my name :D I've also learned a lot more about the different types of relationships that we lead in life and how hard but rewarding it is to maintain them all. Obviously there are the relationships that you keep closer to you, but that doesn't mean that your other friendships are any less important. Sometimes you sacrifice one or the other to make gains in another, but I think the key is to make sure that your temporary sacrifice doesn't become permanent. Learning to take the initiative is something we all need to learn.

Anyways.. this was a rather random post. I'll try to update more regularly as things come up =)

    until then,

  • Time Management

So we did a time management program last Wednesday for the Peer Mentor program.

One of the slides that really came to mind as we presented was this

nImportant things to consider besides good grades when setting goals are:
-Having a well-rounded resume by the time your graduate.
-Being aware of the world around you.
-Setting aside time to do extracurricular activities.
    -Getting some leadership experience.
    -Committing time to community service.
    -Finding an internship or co-op.
-Developing skills related to the field you want to do  into.
    -Knowing the latest technological advances.
    -Studying abroad.
-Having a part-time job while in school.

I realize that so many of these things require... the thing that I have such a lack of... TIME! And I realize that the reason that I feel like i have such a lack of Time is because I've just started to do a lot of these things this year. Rather than having paced myself and began planning ahead starting in freshman year, I instead waited till the end of sophomore year.

What can we all learn from this? USE YOUR FRESHMAN YEARS WISELY! Just because you're young doesn't necessarily mean that you're exempt from planning ahead for your future. My advice is this. Get involved with things that you enjoy and stick with it. Give yourself opportunity to grow in your leadership qualities and start networking with people who can help you get to the places you need.

    Till next time,

This is generally my set schedule for the week. However, the past couple of weeks.. almost every single break I've had has been spent either reading/studying/meeting/bballing, which means that I'm almost constantly at school. This has been tough especially since I do currently live off campus. I think the hardest part of this year is definitely making time for people. It's definitely been trying to try to balance maintaining relationships with everyone while keeping up with all the responsibilities that I have. Perhaps that is what I'll write about more in my next entry =D

Anyhows.. I watch 3:10 to Yuma and I definitely did enjoy it =)

    Till next time

  • First Tide

Wow.. Summer went by EXTREMELY fast.. and it's already been two weeks since school has started. Having just switched majors to political science this semester, I'm definitely enjoying my new line of studying. However, political science also means major amounts of reading. I find that I'm spending a lot of my free time sitting in the library or at home reading my outrageously thick poli-sci books that have ridiculously big words in them. haha, but still, it's the path I've chosen so I'll live with it.

    Quick recap of my summer:

    - Campus visits to UCI, UCSD to see friends and chill
    - Tour of the east coast with my parents (Washington D.C., Niagra Falls, Toronto, Quebec, Boston, NYC)
    - Mexico day trip ( took us 3 hours to get back over the border..)
    - LOTS of eating and just sitting
    - Worked at my parent's store in June
    - U.S. Congress/ R.O.K. National Assembly Youth Exchange Program sponsered by Department of State. (This was probably the highlight of my summer and very definitely narrowed my career path)
    - Spent 4 more days in Korea after the program ended, had some major fun, thanks to my friends there
    - IVCF leadership retreat

    Plans for this semester
    - Keep up with ALL readings.. ( won't make any more mistakes of procrastination..)
    - Stay involved with IVCF
    - Start KAC (Korean American Coalition)
    - Apply for Study abroad in Fall 2008
    - Look for internship for Summer 2008
    - Be a good peer mentor =)

    well till next time
